The east coast Ultra4 season comes to a close, with its final race home to the brand new race track in Sturgis, KY. In an event named The Sturgis Off-Road Blowout, the tight short course meets back woods tree dodging venue packed with it non-stop action and a nail-biting finish. Our good friend and ace photographer Doug Dienelt did an amazing job recapping this race start to finish, coupled with a complete set of stellar shots, over at DrivingLine.com. So as to avoid retelling the same story, check out his in-depth article HERE.
What we will add, or touch on personally, is how blown away we are this 2014 season. Loren Healy, with his brand new Red Dragon IFS racer, has taken his third Ultra4 win, with the latest from last weekends Sturgis Off-Road Blowout. That’s three in a row for Loren in a brand new machine, something we have never seen (best we remember) in the history of Ultra4 racing.
As if that wasn’t enough, we can say UNOFFICIALLY at least, that Loren Healy has taken this years King of the Hammers, along with the East AND West Coast Series Titles. This will be official news come Ultra4 Nationals in October, but as it stands this is another Ultra4 series first. Loren powered his way to victories this year in both Spider 9 powered solid axle and IFS Ultra4 machines, and with his latest IFS creation he seems simply unstoppable. Congrats to Loren for taking 1st last weekend, and an UNOFFICIAL congrats for taking the whole damn series!!!
But wait, there’s more! Last weekend the podium rounded out with Derek West in 2nd and Clay Gilstrap in 3rd. That’s another podium sweep for Spider 9 axles, three events in a row. Yes, it’s been a very good year.
Next up for us is King of Portugal which kicks off September 25th, followed by the final race of the year The Ultra4 Nationals on October 17th. Till then, enjoy a few of our own photos taken at last weekend’s Sturgis Off-Road Blowout.
