Our latest article, “A New King is Born”, just made its way to DrivingLine. Head over to http://www.drivingline.com/2014/10/ultra4-europe-2014-king-of-portugal/ and check out the story & photo set. As one of the best races of the year, with easily the best rocks outside of King of the Hammers, the article is worth the read.
Of course, we also need to sneak in a HUGE congrats to Levi Shirley for taking the win last weekend. That makes the young racer the winner of King of the Mountains, King of the Valleys, and now the King of Portugal. In addition, the win last weekend secured Levi’s 1st place finish for the entire Ultra4 European season! We are insanely proud to be working with Levi and his family, it’s been a great year to say the least!

King of Portugal

Just a little iPhone shot from this morning’s walk of the King of Portugal race course. The green flag drops in roughly 2 hours, with US’s own Levi Shirley in the pole position. It’s going to be two days of the harshest European racing this year’s Ultra4 series has dished out. Best of luck to all drivers and teams, we’ll see you out there!

Sturgis Blowout

The east coast Ultra4 season comes to a close, with its final race home to the brand new race track in Sturgis, KY. In an event named The Sturgis Off-Road Blowout, the tight short course meets back woods tree dodging venue packed with it non-stop action and a nail-biting finish. Our good friend and ace photographer Doug Dienelt did an amazing job recapping this race start to finish, coupled with a complete set of stellar shots, over at DrivingLine.com. So as to avoid retelling the same story, check out his in-depth article HERE.
What we will add, or touch on personally, is how blown away we are this 2014 season. Loren Healy, with his brand new Red Dragon IFS racer, has taken his third Ultra4 win, with the latest from last weekends Sturgis Off-Road Blowout. That’s three in a row for Loren in a brand new machine, something we have never seen (best we remember) in the history of Ultra4 racing.

American Rocksports Challenge

Walking the pits last weekend at Ultra4s American Rocksports Challenge, one thing stood out above all else. Intensity and focus filled the air in a manner unlike any race prior, and while the engines in these monsters can wake the dead there was still a level of quiet that surrounded me. Everyone was humble as you’d expect, but something was a bit different this time around. It wasn’t until I left the pits Friday night, the night before the big race, that the lightbulb went off. This race represented the west coast finale, and points among the leaders was as close as you could get. There was fame and money on the line, and it all came down to roughly 40 minutes of Saturday racing. Oh, and it just so happened to be the most aggressive race course ANY Ultra4 driver has seen.
